In Spain there is health care available for 60 euros a month if you are under 65 and for 157 euros a month if you are over 65. Pre existing conditions are covered, no medical checks required, everyone can be covered.
What is this? ‘Convenio Especial’ basically you join the Spanish health care system and all your health care needs are covered.
Is there a catch? You do need to be a resident in Spain so for the first year you’re going to need health insurance for your residencia which we can help with, but following the first year you can have the Convenios Especial.
For all your legal needs in Spain, from an NIE number to a property purchase via a Company formation, we can help.

Our friends in Almeria have applied for the convenio and they meet all the criteria but were sent away from the local INSS who told them they will not take any documents from them currently. Their local health centre also told them they don’t deal with it. They went to a health centre in another area close to them who said they would have to send the forms to Seville but they would have to wait at least two months for a reply. Is all this normal or legal? This means that they will have to purchase a further twelve months private health cover as this is the minimum (I know there are a few companies that will do it for 3 months but their prices are extortionate). Any advice or guidance appreciated as we will be in their position next month. Thanks
