This is a question that I have been asked a number of times by clients looking to move to Spain for residency and to buy and rent property. I thought that I would address it in my group ‘Spanish Legal Questions by Marisa Moreno’
The Government has announced its intention that Congress on Wednesday June 3rd 2020 approves what appears to be the last and definitive extension of the state of alarm that will end on June 21st 2020. That will mean that mobility restrictions will end on June 21st 2020. You will the be able to go anywhere you want in Spain, but what about UK citizens who are not in Spain at the present time?
The Prime Minister has also announced his intention to open the borders in July 2020, in coordination with the rest of the EU. From when the State of Alarm ends, the quarantine for foreign visitors arriving from another country in the European Union including United Kingdom is expected to end. Mr Sanchez went on to say ‘we recall that, despite the good results that have been achieved, it is necessary to act prudently and with respect for the new health standards of hygiene and interpersonal distance.’
So at the present time we do not know exactly when the borders of Spain will open to UK citizens. As I said please join my group and once the BOE is published I will translate it and let you all know. Please note that this is up to date as of 1st June 2020 but as you will all know the law here can change quickly.
