Our Senior lawyer Marisa Moreno Castillo at Just Law Solicitors recently attended a conference in Malaga, Spain on the Digital Nomad Visa.
The long-awaited digital nomad visa bill looks like it could be ready by early next year 2023. At the time of writing, we don’t have a specific date.
Many foreign citizens from outside the EU for example the United Kingdom post-Brexit, the USA or Canada had a problem when they wanted to come and live in Spain as they couldn’t easily get a work visa here.
If you have in the region of 27,000 euros you can have the non-lucrative visa known as the NLV but you can’t work with this visa even if you’re working from home in Spain for an employer who is for example in the United Kingdom.
So what if you are a UK citizen employed by a UK company and you want to work for them from your home in Spain? The good news is that the new digital nomad visa will allow those people wanting to come to live in Spain, without working here, but rather they wanted to continue working remotely for a foreign company or offer their services to international clients while enjoying the Spanish lifestyle in their Spanish home.
The Spanish digital nomad visa will allow so-called digital nomads to be able to live in Spain and work remotely in cases where they work for a company that is not located in Spain and freelancers who have income from online work from different clients outside of Spain.
At the time of writing in June 2022, the law is still in the consultation phase with the different political, social, and economic sectors to listen to their contributions.
