For the last few days I’ve been on the Just Law Solicitors tour of the lessor known parts of Spain.
Even if people haven’t visited say the Costa Del Sol and Costa Brava they have an idea of what to expect.
After 8 years in Spain and having driven through it a few times I decided I wanted to explore the areas that most people have never heard of. I choose September 2023 as it wasn’t super hot or cold, I don’t mind the heat but I was taking the dogs with me.Â
After a bit of travel and a short stop in the very clean modern city of Ciudad Real we made it to the province of Palencia having stayed on the old Route Nationals. The highways in Spain aren’t busy and the old routes even less so. We stayed just east of the busy little town of Aguilar De Campo and the local beef version of Spanish ham called cecina.
The first thing that stuck me was how much it looked like rural France. I used to live in Limousin department of France and this place looked exactly the same. Stone houses and barns and rolling countryside that wasn’t scorched. An abundance of fruit and berries growing in the hedge rows and fields of sun flowers and potatoes. You can see wherever you went piles of firewood which would point to somewhere that had 4 seasons. If you’re looking for a quiet rural lifestyle have a look.

As always if you’re thinking of moving to Spain and buying a house in Spain, always rent first. Take your time, drive around treat it like a job, it’s not hard discussing the local property prices in a local restaurant. Remember lunch doesn’t start till 14:00 at the earliest but you can eat giant tostadas all morning.
Spain in my opinion is huge but our American cousins will probably differ in their view. It has everything from deserts to flat plains, beaches and high mountains. If you’re going to take the plunge and buy, take the tour.
