The NIE is the “Foreigner Identification Number” and it is necessary for almost everything in daily life in Spain, for example, a rental, a property purchase, opening a bank account, the incorporation of a company, or buying shares.
Passport is often requested together.
The NIE should not be confused with the residence or the EU citizen registration (green card)
It is obtained at a national police station, upon presentation of an identity document from the country of origin, an application form (EX15), form (790-12) for the payment of the tax, proof of this payment, and the reason for the NIE application. It is normally available within a few days.
The NIE can also be requested abroad, at a Spanish consulate, but, in this case, it takes longer because the application is sent to Madrid.
If you are not fluent in Spanish, or dont want to queue at the police station we are here to help you.
Also, if you are outside of Spain, we can obtain it by means of a power of attorney, without you needing to comer to Spain.
