On of the things that is new for United Kingdom citizens is the medical which you have to get your Spanish driving licence. If you are living in Spain or planning a move to Spain you will have to do this as part of the process to obtain your Spanish driving licence.
I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you about what happens when you have the medical. You are asked some medical questions, regarding your health, illnesses and any medication you are on. You then have your height and weight details recorded and your photo taken.
You are given an eye test, a test to determine your lateral vision and a colour blindness test. There is also a hearing test and you are also asked to stand with your arms out in front. You are also asked to play what to me looks like a bad video game from the 1970s. There are 2 handles on a machine and you are asked to control 2 white balls going down tracks on the opposite side of the screen, don’t worry as you get to try first. There is a lot of beeping but this does not necessarily mean that you have failed. The fee for this is around 60 euros.
As always this isn’t legal advice and is only my own personal experience from what I can remember of the medical side of the test. If you need to exchange your driving licence or apply for a Spanish driving licence here in Spain we can help.
We can also of course assist you with residency, NIE numbers, taxes with our specialist tax advisor and wills and inheritance. If you are buying a place in Spain you can choose your own independent lawyer, we have 30 years of experience. Remember not to sign or pay anything until you have had legal advice from an expert lawyer.
